My wife and I stayed on site 38 in August of 2011. The campground was well kept and clean. There was a black top paved drive into our site but it was all on an incline with no level area for our little camper. We had to have the tongue resting on the pavement for it to be level enough.
The sites here are close together but not on top of each other. The camp host next to us wasn't friendly and played hard core evangelist sermons on his radio loudly throughout the day. He also went after the young couples on the other side of the road for what I thought was harmless fun.
The restrooms are close by and were reasonably clean but we were surprised to find no showers! We found out you have to drive 45 minutes along Skyline Drive to Big Meadow camping area to use showers. Big Meadow is the only Campground in the park with showers and they are coin-operated. 4 quarters for 5 minutes.
All in all it was worth it because the Shenandoah Park as a whole is so nice and scenic. The campground itself was just OK.
