State Park Information | (No Ratings Yet) | Unknown | Unknown, Victoria | Australia | Unknown | Unknown | | Description | Langi Ghiran (Lar-ne-jeering, ‘Home of the Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos’, in the language of the Djab Wurrung people) is located between Ararat and Beaufort on the Western Highway. It offers peaceful walks through native woodlands, waterways and heritage sites.
Langi Ghiran is a place of cultural and spiritual significance to the Traditional Owners, the Djab Wurrung people. Ancient rock art and a rock shelter found along the 1.8km Langi Ghiran art walking track is a testament to their long history and enduring connection to Country. Visitors to the park are asked to be respectful of these places.
Hill hikers can take the Easter Creek track or Link Track for spectacular views of the surrounding area, through open forest scattered with granite boulders, Red Stringybark and Long-leaf Box trees. Watch for the plant species unique to this area, such as the Langi Ghiran Grevillea and the Grampians Bitter-pea.
Visitors can also meander along scenic walks and tracks via the lower slopes and creek. The lower woodlands are scattered with River Red Gums, Yellow Box and Candlebark trees, with Messmate, Manna Gums and Red Stringybark in the mountains and Yarra Gums along the waterways.?Some plants unique to this area are the Langi Ghiran Grevillea (can be seen at some of the viewing points along Easter Creek Track), and the Grampians Bitter-pea.
The popular Reservoir Walk (2.6km, 45 minutes return) starts from the picnic ground and climbs gently alongside Easter Creek, passed a small holding dam and weir, through native bushland and granite boulders before reaching the old reservoir. The reservoir and dam were constructed from local granite in 1880, and the main reservoir is an emergency water supply for Ararat. The Reservoir wall, holding dam / weir, and water race are constructed from hand strewn granite blocks quarried nearby – a work of art in itself created by tradesmen of years gone by.
For a longer walk, continue on to the Water-race Circuit (5.1km from the picnic ground, 1.5 hours return) to follow the historic granite water-race through the lightly forested lower slopes of Langi Ghiran, before returning to the picnic ground. | | | | Park Stats | Campgrounds: 0 | Campsites: 0 | Photos: 0 | Reviews: 0 | Views: 309 | Likes: 0 |
