In addition to outstanding fishing, the park also features picnic areas, lakefront RV camping with cable TV hookups, a modern bathhouse, a boardwalk leading to an island in the lake, and more than three miles of walking trails.
A pedestrian bridge spanning a section of Lake Frank Jackson eases the trip between the playground and campground areas; as well as serves as a wetland wildlife viewing area. Various birds, fish and other animals are regular sights from the bridge. The peaceful sounds of the lake lapping through the aquatic vegetation highlight a quality of life that state parks offer.
Fishing is the main attraction at the park and Lake Frank Jackson is specially stocked and managed for prime freshwater fishing. Bass, bream, crappie and catfish are abundant. Boat launch ramps and a grassy beach provide water access for boaters, paddlers and swimmers. A handicap-accessible fishing platform is located at the northwest end of the dam and is accessible from Highway 42.
October through November, the park hosts another one of its main attractions, Scarecrows in the Park. During this annual event, the walking trails are lined with decorative scarecrows made by local individuals, businesses, organizations and school groups. A local volunteer group, the Trail Masters, was instrumental in the construction of the trails and organizes the event. | | | | Park Stats | Campgrounds: 1 | Campsites: 32 | Photos: 0 | Reviews: 0 | Views: 145 | Likes: 0 |
