Need to get away from the crowd? Head to the lake! Water draws wildlife and humans here for respite from the dry West Texas climate. The park is south of I-20 between Midland and Abilene.
Many activities here feature the lake: fishing, swimming and paddling. But that’s not all you can do. Set up camp or enjoy a picnic, hike, look for a geocache, take photographs and watch for wildlife. Reserve a group site for your next gathering.
Drop a line in Lake Colorado City, a 1,618-acre impoundment of Morgan Creek. Anglers fish primarily for largemouth bass, channel catfish and sunfish. The park has a boat ramp and fishing pier. Call to check lake levels before your visit. You do not need a license to fish from shore or pier in a state park.
This reservoir typically has golden alga blooms from November to April. Blooms vary in intensity (slightly to highly toxic) and duration (several weeks to several months) and may result in fish kills. Contact the park for the latest conditions.
Swim in the lake or explore by boat (no lifeguards on duty). Read through our Water Safety Tips before your visit. Bring your own kayak or canoe or rent a kayak here (we provide paddles and life vests with rental).
Hike lakeside while enjoying views of the water and glimpses of wildlife. More than 300 bird species have been sighted in the park. Check out our Trails Information page to learn more.
Reserve a campsite or one of 11 cabins. Restrooms with showers are in all camping loops and the cabin area.
