Out west lies a mystical place where the wind sculpts sand dunes into peaks and valleys, sometimes over­night. Mon­a­hans Sandhills State Park offers a Texas-sized sand­box for kids of all ages, as well as a close-up view of a unique desert environment.

Bring a picnic and spend the day exploring on foot or horse­back. Rent sand disks and surf the dunes. Learn about the park and its natural and cultural history at the Dunagan Vis­i­tors Center. Set up camp and witness spec­tac­ular sun­sets. Rent our group hall and pavilion for your next group event.

The park does not have marked trails – you are free to ex­plore at will. Watch for the myriad of creatures, plants and wild­flowers that thrive in what seems to be an inhospitable place. Rent sand disks and slide and tumble down the dunes - for kids of all ages! Rent at headquarters from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. Discs available for sale after hours; contact the park for details. Practice hiking safety. The dunes heat up quickly during summer months. Be aware of your surroundings, so that you can find your way back to your starting point.

Learn about this area, its plants and animals, and its human history at the Dunagan Vis­i­tors Center. Stop by the large win­dows overlooking the wildlife area – you never know what bird or animal will be getting a drink or snack.

Bring your horse and explore our 800-acre equestrian area, which has no marked trails. Expect heavy sand with brush and a few mesquite trees. Other equestrian amenities include a trailer parking area, potable water and three campsites.

Reserve one of 26 campsites with water and electricity. Each site has a shade shelter.
