Ochlockonee River State Park |

Ochlockonee River State Park in north west Florida outside of the town of Sopchoppy. Sopchoppy is a tiny town with not alot of ameneties so make sure you have all the supplies you need for your stay at this state park. The Ochlcockonee Park is a small park as far as state parks go with only thirty campsites so your stay will be quiet. The staff here were the friendliest we have ever encountered and went out of their way to find information on the bike trails in the area outside of the park. There is a section of the Florida Trail that you can catch in Sopchoppy. We did’t have time to do it this time around as we were only able to get a site for one night. We take the opportunity to check out the beginning of it before biking into the roads of the nearby National Forest. In the state park they have some good trails that wind through the high longleaf pines and the palmettos. There had recently been alot of rain in the area and some of the trails were flooded. The hikes are not long but very relaxing and peaceful. We spotted some deer along the trails. One of the rangers told us they have a rare white deer in the area but we did not run into her on the trails. There are a couple of boat ramps that give easy access to the river. Canoe and kayaks are available for rent. Nice picnic shelters and planyground area in the day use area along with a small area for swimming. Didn’t swim as they had warning signs for alligators so we passed. White squirrels can be seen quit often in the camping area. |
