Unknown | thunderlake park | Reviewed on June 19th, 2020 | i have to agree with the lady, I am from Barrhead and our family loves the water so we go anywhere but there. We only go to Thunderlake to visit with friends who are camping for maybe a couple of days until the kids are tired of biking around. I am sorry that you were told that it has great beaches and fishing, the fishing was finished years ago and if you are brave enough to swim after walking through gull crap then you need to have salt with you and shower immediately. Again, I am sorry you went there with those expectations, if your family loves water, fishing, biking and strolling like we do I would recommend cross lake, carson pegasus, wabamun, but not thunderlake, it is just for the camping lifestyle without the water fun. I hope you have a better experience soon.

Unknown | Thunder Lake Provincial Park | Reviewed on June 19th, 2020 | We have gone to Thunder Lake for the past two years for 4 days each time. Last year in July and this year in August. The campground is nice. The spots are treed and you aren't right on top of your neighbours. Some spots are better than others.
The water is good for water skiing and tubing. We've never encountered any leeches in the middle of the lake. It's a nice lake for beginner tubers and ok skiers. On the weekend it does get crowded and you need to watch out for other boats more.
The beach is meh. There is lots of seagull poop and I was told by a local that they are stocking the lake and that is why there is so many little dead fish along the edge. We did have a couple of leeches appear while we were here but nothing too terrible.
If you are here mainly for camping and boating it's a good place but I wouldn't recommend it for laying on the beach for a day.

Unknown | Do NOT i repeat DO NOT stay here! | Reviewed on June 19th, 2020 | My family and I reserved a campsite for a week at Thunder Lake Provincial Park. After giving out our credit card info they would not tell us which site was ours so we basically got what they had left when we arrived. The campsite was a decent size, tress surrounding-which was nice & was semi private. There was dirty diapers and garbage laying around though, we had the staff come clean it up. I had spoken to staff answering the phone prior to booking to make sure the campground had a nice beach & good fishing. She had told me there were many going swimming, the beach was amazing & the fishing was great. Well first off the beach was horrible! There were hundreds of dead little fish washed up on shore with flies swarming them, there was bird crap everywhere, and there were tons of leaches! I was really looking forward to spending time with my son in the water as its his very first camping trip, it was a definite let down :( My husband went fishing all day for two days & only caught a couple fish. So he ended up going to Peanut Lake (20 min drive) instead, which had great fishing! Also there were many warnings on the local radio station about blue algae there & warned people not to go swimming. The campground failed to let any of the visitors know. The beach is a long walk from the sites, and there is a big hill you have to walk up as well. The trails are definitely NOT stroller friendly, so if you have a baby & like to go walking..this place is not for you, there are also stairs in some trails that are rotten- so watch for those too. The playground on the main beach is alright, nothing special. Watch for wasps, they were surrounding the area. The bathrooms by our site were disgusting but I found the ones by the showers were cleaner. As for the noise level, for the most part it was good. I also noticed they have a sign that says no refunds and underneath stating why people may ask for a refund..the algae, the leaches..etc etc. I would never return to this campground. The information given to me by the staff was misleading and it was difficult to do anything with my young son. He absolutely loves water and it was a huge let down that he couldn't even step in the water without leaches swarming him or stepping on dead fish :( I would NOT recommend this campground to anyone. Another tip! If you for any reason do stay at this site, or any in the surrounding area, barrhead has a great spray park for kids and a nice indoor pool! We tried to make the best of this trip, I hope you all do as well, wherever it may be that your staying :)
